The odometer analogy kinda works, but with one big difference - I'm never going to buy a used car sight-unseen, but I have bought several cameras that way. " If people ask about shutter count and then never reply they were not going to buy the camera in the first place."Īctually, I can provide myself as an example of someone who did not buy my last Pentax from any one of half-a-dozen sellers who were unable or unwilling to provide a shutter count - and I did buy from a seller who provided that information. Would be nice if people sent an email rather than simply stop responding which is quite typical, unfortunately. The fact that you weren't able to provide the # of actuations probably raised a red flag for the inexperienced or they simply don't feel comfortable proceeding. Either that or they know so little about cameras that they wouldn't even be able to properly assess a used camera body for proper functionality and so can only judge whether it's "safe" to buy based on things like the shutter count. With respect to Shutter Counts, I think many buyers are simply insecure and without knowing the seller personally and having the camera in front of them to inspect, they just need to check off a bunch of boxes before buying something over the internet. Wouldn't be surprised if the sale doesn't go through, again ! Just sold again 2 days ago but having trouble coordinating a time with the buyer. My well-priced Canon was "sold" 4 times with all buyers backing out. Another buyer backed out when he realized 2 hours after confirming he wanted my camera that he'll instead wait for the 7D Mark III that's due out in "a few months" (It'll be at least a year and selling for almost twice the price as what my mint condition 7D2 is selling for). I sent several emails educating both buyers resulting in 2 lost sales. Another person stated that she was planning to become a Pro photographer so she needed a Pro-level *full-frame* camera. One beginner told me that she was going on a 2 month trip in a couple of weeks and was told that beginners should get a Canon. I'm surprised at how many people haven't the foggiest idea of what they are buying. I'm in the process of selling my Canon 7D Mark II (under 10,000 actuations) on Craigslist which has been a great place to easily sell any Fuji gear.
